Note: This club primarily uses OUT OF CHARACTER DISCUSSION/CHATTING. Please do not roleplay in this thread unless it is otherwise noted.
I think that this group will work best if we assign one book a term to read, then towards the end of the term designate some time to discuss about it. Picking books will depend on the club members. It's been largely suggested that we should start with Harry Potter books, since most of them will own them, but there's a wide world of books out there we can choose from as well. A suggestion I have would be to also choose some "public domain" books so that all members have easy access to them. For instance, Project Gutenberg is a website that has free eBook copies of the classics that are now public domain. There's even a few audiobook versions for some! If we ever feel like branching out into some Shakespeare, there's also MIT's website.
The club will have 3 phases when we have a full term to work with. There will be a week to nominate books/stories for the reading material, then a week to vote on the nominees. After that, we will have until the last two weeks or so (this is tenative) to discuss the story! If you guys think we should have discussions throughout the term as well, let me know. We may be able to do this, but it would have to be behind spoilers with how far you need to be to not be spoiled by the discussion.
Since we are starting the club with only one month left in the term, I am thinking that we just do a short story or possibly one of the smaller Harry Potter supplement books like Quidditch Through the Ages, Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them, or The Tales of Beedle the Bard. There's also the option of the Harry Potter prequel short story with James and Sirius. The story does not have to be Harry Potter related, mind you! If you have any suggestions for something that would be good for the month we have left, please feel free to suggest.
Also since we are starting so late in the term, the Book Club will not have a Club Captain until next term. Before term starts, there will be "tryouts" for the Club Captain.
Any suggestions for the club or for our reading material this month, please feel free to post here! Please also post if you will be joining us in the Book Club this month so I can take down everyone's usernames. I'm hoping we can get some good suggestions in by Sunday so that we can do a quick vote and start reading!

Sounds like fun. I read a lot as is.
I just recently re-read the first 3 Harry Potter books but I think starting with the first would be a good idea. :)

Me please and chants Quidditch Through the Ages for the short story.
I do think discussion during the term would be fun. Personally I get so into books that I need someone to talk to about a character or something that happened. I agree with the spoiler idea though.
Just a question in the just-in-case category. What if members of the club don't like a certain book voted for? Could we have other options in books? I figured everyone has different tastes or might not be "feeling" a book at the time.
I'd love to join! I could use a few more excuses to read. And I vote Beedle the Bard if we're doing supplements! It's one of my favorites.
I would love to join. Books are my passion. c:
I currently and rereading the last of the harry potter books (i just did the whole series). I think a short story would be good. Maybe for the first time we should stick to Harry potter.
but I will put a vote in for the short story The Lottery - this is probably my favorite story ever.
I definitely want to join. I think starting with the HP books is a great idea. I've been wanting to re-read anyways. Having discussions in the middle of the book might be nice, but definitely under spoilers.
I've been wanting to re-read Quiddich Through the Ages so that is my nominee for the short book this term. :)

I'm in! I need some more ideas for books to read!
Would you add me to this group, please?
I'd love to read Quidditch Through the Ages or Fantastic Beasts this term. I haven't actually read those yet. >_<
Are you referring to Shirley Jackson's "The Lottery"? That work is so spooky and wonderful.
🌸Seeking:I would love to join this club and would like to suggest Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them as the first book. I love reading and discussing books, so I think this will be the perfect club for me :D
I'd like to be a part of the book club as well as everyone else here.
I would like to join please! I am super excited, reading is one of my passions and to be able to share that with friends will be exciting! I like the idea of a short story since this term is almost over!
, yeah I am. c: I loved reading it. the ending came out of nowhere the first time I read it.
I'm all in :) Rereading Harry Potter seems a good idea to me ^^
I definitely want to join. Starting with the HP books would be great, as I'm sure we would all love to catch up on them (and find another reason to read them all over). Also I think the Divergent series would be awesome to read at some point in time.
